Adam Chodzko

Whitstable, Kent

Born 1965, London, England

If you look at anything too hard it begins to disintegrate, dissolving to the point where everything can be linked yet nothing is stable. I make art to explore this experience of perception (which feels like it hovers between joy and fear). The gallery installations (from video to drawings) are a series of propositions as to how our culture might be -- How else might we coincide and communicate? What else might we value? -- if reality shifted in the way it feels that it might, at any minute. I develop the structures of these possibilities by placing a "wrong" question into public space (through advertisements, phone calls, a question to a stranger, catalyzing chance, a group of respondents and a process that unfolds with them: reunions of owners of a particular jacket or the children "murdered" in Pasolini's film Salo; a god look-alike contest; strangers asked where The End should take place or lighting technicians asked to set up the light in heaven; a London gallery's entire archive given to a group of Kurdish asylum seekers to edit and hide outside the capital...
