Brooklyn-based dancer and choreographer Rebecca Davis received an Emergency Grant in 2010 for performer fees for her evening-length work, what I’m saying is born from the weather, performed at Judson Memorial Church in downtown New York.  Davis had assumed the financial risk of self-producing at a time when her income was stable, but unexpectedly lost her job before the show and was unable to cover production costs.

Since Davis’s show at Judson Church, what I’m saying is born from the weather has been presented at Dance Theater Workshop, Trisha Brown Studio and Galapagos Art Space and received much critical acclaim.  In 2011, Davis was invited to collaborate with the visual arts duo Allora & Calzadilla in developing Body in Flight (American) and Body in Flight (Delta), both of which were exhibited at the U.S. Pavilion in the Venice Biennale.  Recently, the three artists collaborated again to create Revolving Door, which premiered at the 2011 Manchester International Festival.  Davis is a 2011 Bogliasco Foundation Fellow in Dance and a resident artist at HERE Arts Center.
