I chose these five images purely as a collector, as in works I would also like to own. Choosing as a collector - someone who lives with works and curates not always by theme, but sometimes by access, budget, available wallspace and gut feeling - perhaps it's unsurprising that three of the five artists are people who I know personally. While I did not curate my selection as I would an exhibition, each work has a resonance that engages different aspects of what I generally respond to in art objects: physical presence, discourse, emotional resonance. Most of the works refer to larger projects, like sculptures, videos, performances, collections and portfolios, and in acquiring any one of these works, a collector would have a part of those larger wholes: something that is very appealing when resources are limited.
